SCREENINGS FAQs

WHAT IS ENTAILED IN HOSTING A SCREENING?

To host a screening in any location outside of a private home, you’ll need a license. Your purchase supports Project Light's mission to bring hope and healing into the lives of the men and women they serve.

As the organizing host, you choose the date, time, venue, planning team, and other details, and we provide you with the film, screening guide, and marketing materials.

We have found that individuals and groups partnering together host successful events by distributing the costs and leveraging their larger reach.

Your audience can be adults, young adults, or teens. Parents certainly need to see this film, but the topics do not have generational boundaries. Women of all ages are finding light touching areas of their heart they didn't even know were there.

For more information and to get started, please visit our host a screening page. The first step we typically recommend is researching venues and identifying partners.

WHERE CAN I HOST A SCREENING?

Almost anywhere! Here are a few suggestions to start:

  • At your church

  • A college or high school auditorium

  • A community center

  • A college campus ministry center

  • Your own living room or backyard! (Pre-order DVD/Blu-Ray here)

  • A public library

  • A local movie theatre (Contact us for more info)

Please make sure that your venue has a projector, screen, DVD/Blu-Ray player and cords to connect everything. Consider using microphones if your venue is large enough to facilitate an introduction of the film and a post-screening discussion.

CAN I HOST A SCREENING IN MY HOME?

Sure! Simply pre-order a DVD or rent/download the film when available. You don’t need to license the film since you’re hosting a home viewing. For conversation starters and planning tips, click here to download our home viewing kit. (COMING SOON)

WHEN CAN I HOST A SCREENING?

Anytime! We recommend taking at least four to six weeks to organize and promote an event, but we can get everything set up quickly if needed. We do request that you allow a minimum of two weeks for our team to ship your screening materials; otherwise, we’ll need to charge an expedited shipping fee.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THE FILM IS APPROPRIATE BEFORE I SCREEN IT WITH MY AUDIENCE. CAN I VIEW THE FILM BEFORE DECIDING TO HOST A SCREENING?

In order to help you prepare for hosting the screening, you will receive a 48hr link to the film once you purchase your license. If you feel that the content is not suitable for your audience we will refund your purchase upon request.

WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH A SCREENING LICENSE?

You’ll get a copy of the film, a community screening guide, promotional materials, and guidance as needed. The materials we send vary by type of screening and your geographical location, whether you’re located in the US or international, so please visit our host a screening page and select your type of screening package to learn more.

WHY DO YOU CHARGE A LICENSE FEE?

As a nonprofit organization, license fees help sustain our ongoing work to inspire individuals and communities. Learn more about what we’re doing at Project Light Ministries!

As much as we would like to spread the message for free, documentaries are expensive to produce and distribute, and we are also a nonprofit organization doing additional work beyond creating films. It is common practice for films to charge a license fee for the public performance rights, whether they’re Hollywood movies or documentary films.

DO I STILL NEED A LICENSE IF MY SCREENING IS NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC?

Yes! Any screening outside of a private home requires a license. For in home screenings pre-order the Blu-Ray/DVD here.

WHAT ARE PUBLIC PERFORMANCE RIGHTS?

Public performance rights are the legal rights held by distributors or producers of media content. Distributors or rights-holders can grant public performance rights to individuals and organizations for their limited use.

The concept of “public performance” is central to copyright and is the main issue of protection for these intellectual properties. Most of the people working in movie productions depend upon royalties as a major portion of their income. For Project Light Ministries this income allows for the ministry to continue it’s mission and create more projects like this.

IF I WANT TO HOST MULTIPLE SCREENINGS, DO I HAVE TO PAY A LICENSE FEE EACH TIME?

Our licenses are per-event. Under a single-use license, you may host one or two screenings at a single location on the same day (i.e. a matinee and an evening screening). ***If you are a church or school and would like to hold a screening for adults/parents and one for teens this can be done with a single use license on different days.  If you are interested in extending the license for additional screening in your community, contact us and we can help to create a unique license at a discounted price.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BUY A LICENSE?

For pricing information please visit our host a screening page to learn more about the license that is best for your group.

ARE THERE OPTIONS IF I DON’T HAVE A BIG BUDGET?

It is our desire that as many people as possible can watch the film. While we aren’t able to waive our license fees, we will be offering scholarships for viewing. We also encourage individuals and groups to partner together to host a screening. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship or donating to the fund contact us here.

WILL I RECEIVE ANY MARKETING OR SUPPORT MATERIALS FOR MY SCREENING?

Yes! We will provide you with a discussion guide to help you plan and execute a conversation after the film. We also provide marketing materials such as electronic copies of the film logo/poster and a press release template. U.S.-based screenings will also receive a film poster and postcards in the mail. Additional materials will be available for purchase.

WHAT FORMATS ARE AVAILABLE TO SCREEN THE FILM?

In order to ensure the highest quality viewing we would like to provide a Blu-Ray disc. We also offer DVD and digital file options. You can also request a DCP file if you are screening in a theater.

HOW DO I GET MY EVENT ON YOUR WEBSITE’S SCREENING CALENDAR?

Once you are ready to book your screening, you will fill out your event information and select public or private. If you select public, we’ll add your event to our website calendar in just a few days.

IS THERE A SHORTER VERSION AVAILABLE THAT I CAN SCREEN AT MY EVENT?

No. There is not a shorter version for viewing at this time.

IS THERE AN OPTION TO LICENSE THE FILM FOR ONGOING USE IN MY PROGRAMS?

Yes. Visit our host a screening page for the screening options.
